In other Bible news, I recently got involved in a little argument with some King James Only types on the Facebook Bible Versions Debate and Discussion group I created several years ago. It was the usual sort of thing: KJVO claims that all modern Bible versions are "corrupt," by which he means that they disagree with God's holy, preserved Word in English, i.e. the King James Bible. When asked to defend his assertion, he responds that he doesn't have time to provide examples, but encourages everyone else to just take a look at any modern version and compare it to the King James, and they'll see how many verses have been "changed" or "removed." (Once again, using the KJV as the standard by which all other Bibles must be judged...) All thinking people on the group responded appropriately. It never ceases to amaze me, how KJVOs will troll Facebook groups, attempting to proclaim their misguided message. As often as I remove them from the group, more heretics take their place...it's like battling a nine-headed hydra...
I just realized today that you can't find the Revised English Bible (REB) online anywhere...at least, not for free. Oxford University Press apparently keeps a pretty tight rein on that version. It's not on Bible Gateway, or any of the other free Bible websites, as far as I can tell. Which is too bad... I mean, it's not my favorite version or anything, but it's sometimes interesting to compare some of its readings with other English Bibles, just to get a unique (sometimes bizarre) point of view. Oh well, I've always got my print copy...
Finally, just for fun, here's the April CBA Bible Translation Bestseller list. Once again, the KJV has ascended to its traditional #2 spot. Meanwhile, the rest of the list looks...well, almost exactly the same as it always does! I guess the NKJV unseating the KJV last month was just a temporary aberration. Yes, I know, the bestseller lists don't mean a whole lot, but hey, I don't follow sports. What else am I going to follow?
