For anyone new to the blog, my goal at Bible Bookshelf is to write about, and invite commentary on, the Bible in translation: English, German, Spanish, and whatever translations come to mind. I hope to be able to allow others to post articles as well. We'll see how the revamped blog does...
Just to be clear, this is not a Bible study site, or a Bible thumping site, or anything of that sort. My raison d'etre is to discuss different translations of the Bible: what makes them different from one another, what they have in common, why I think we should prefer one translation over another (or not, as the case may be), what makes different translations distinctive, and so on.
I should probably add, this is not a site where you are invited to explain to me and others why the King James Bible is the only valid translation, and all others are invalid, or worse, deliberate perversions of the Word. If you are King James Only, there are plenty of sites out there that cater to your needs. If you post a lot of King James Only stuff (or anything else that I find deliberately inflammatory), I will reject your posts.
There are an awful lot of Bible translations out there, many of which are on my shelves. Plenty to discuss, so let the conversation begin!
